Concessions to New Hydraulic Fracturing Rule

On Thursday a new plan was unveiled to tighten drilling standards for public lands.

The measure is poised to be the first major federal rule governing the hydraulic fracturing process. It will set new standards to ensure that groundwater is isolated from fluids pumped underground. The rule will also prevent any hydrocarbons from flowing at the sites.

Chevron Invests in Argentinian Shale

Chevron Corporation has signed an agreement with the Argentine energy company YPF to invest up to $1.5 billion in Argentina’s vast Vaca Muerta shale field.

The two companies signed a letter of intent in December to partner on investments. Their joint project will include drilling more than 100 non-conventional wells over the next 12 months.

Dairy Company Cited by OHSA for Workplace Violations

Sinton Dairy Foods Company, Inc. has been cited by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

The Colorado Springs company was issued 10 serious, two repeat and two “other-than-serious violations” – for items which do not pose immediate harm.

MSHA: Helping Miners Exercise Their Rights

The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has released a post by Joseph Main, the assistant secretary of labor for mine safety and health, to help miners exercise their rights.

Main’s comments are intended to reinforce the priority MSHA has placed on the anti-discrimination provisions found in the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977.
