More than 40 years ago in the U.S, Black Lung was considered a problem of the past.
Federal authorities had set up a plan to compensate miners who suffered from the breathing constrictions and health issues that coal mine workers experienced with Black Lung.
Furthermore, with safety rules and regulations, it was though that the problem would soon be eradicated and become an “old man’s disease,” as it eventually went the way of polio.
